A driver was caught driving with his mobile phone. However, he did not want to pay the fine, which has been twice as expensive since May. “Write something else on the card,” he suggested to the police officers. An expensive mistake…
It was not the first time that a Waldviertler (49) was caught with his mobile phone behind the wheel. In Langenlois, in the Krems district, he was apparently arrested for the first time since the amendment to the motor vehicle law that came into effect on May 1. One of the innovations it contains: A mobile phone violation now costs 100 instead of 50 euros.
“That would be abuse of office”
This doubling was clearly too much for the 49-year-old. “Could you please write another violation on the ticket that costs 50 euros,” the driver hoped that the police would calm down. But they would have ended up in the devil’s kitchen themselves and explained to the driver that this was an abuse of office. But that didn’t matter to the man. Despite the hint, he repeated his demand: “I would pay 50 euros, no more.”
The officials did not let that happen. They filed a complaint. Now it could become very expensive for the Waldviertler. He is charged with incitement to abuse of office.
