Research shows: – For the climate: Eight out of ten already drive more slowly

Date:

The climate is protected by reducing individual traffic. Leaving the car behind is often easier said than done. According to a recent survey, Austrians drive more sparingly to protect the climate – or simply walk.

In the Autoscout24.at survey, eight out of ten people said they were careful on the road, and seven out of ten did not go for a walk. The car is also deliberately left behind and driven on foot, by bicycle or by public transport.

Sweating to protect the climate – not everyone is for it
In their own words, reducing CO₂ emissions is a concern for many. Every driver can contribute to this with an economical driving style – for example driving at low speeds. 80 percent are already doing this, and another 12 percent will do so in the future. Switching off the engine when the car is stationary has already been achieved by three quarters.

The interior temperature also affects fuel consumption. According to their own statements, two-thirds of drivers use air conditioning sparingly and 16 percent are considering integrating it into their daily driving style in the future. But not everyone is attracted to the idea of sweating for the sake of the climate: for two in ten respondents, forgoing comfortable temperatures in the set of wheels is not an option.

Women are more careful than men
70 percent of the respondents forgo walks in the car because of the climate. Especially women (74 percent) take this measure (vs. men 62 percent). The car is also easy to replace for short journeys. More than half of Austrians (54 percent) do not use the car for such journeys.

Leaving the car at home is obviously the most effective way to protect the climate. The Austrians see it the same way: at least two-thirds of the respondents consciously leave the car at one time or another for reasons of climate protection and cover the distance on foot. In the interest of the climate, 44 percent cycle or occasionally use public transport.
