The Russian airport of Pskov in the city of the same name in the northwest of the country was attacked by drones on Wednesday night. According to local residents, explosions, gunfire and sirens could be heard. A big fire also broke out.

The Russian army has repelled a drone attack, Mikhail Vedernikov, governor of Pskov Oblast, wrote on Telegram. Pskov is located about 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, the region borders the EU member states of Latvia and Estonia.

According to various sources, the airport was attacked by ten to twenty drones. The state news agency TASS, citing rescue services, reported that four heavy transport aircraft were damaged in the attack.A drone is said to have hit the tank complex on the airport grounds. Meanwhile, according to official information, the Russian air defense has again repelled a drone that was heading for the capital Moscow. The UAV was intercepted and crashed over Rusa in the Moscow region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Telegram on Wednesday morning. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there was no damage or injuries. The emergency services are on site. The information could not be independently verified.

Four Ukrainian drones were also shot down, according to the Kremlin. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced that three unmanned aerial vehicles were repelled by air defenses over the southwestern border area of ​​Bryansk. Another drone was shot down over the neighboring Oryol region.

Earlier on Wednesday evening – without explanation – air traffic at Moscow airports was temporarily interrupted again. Recently, Moscow has repeatedly become the target of Ukrainian drone strikes.
