A 22-year-old brutally assaulted a young woman at an Easter celebration in Styria. He was quickly arrested and confessed to the crime from the start. He received a very light sentence in court.
The lavish atmosphere at an Easter celebration on the night of April 10 in the Deutschfeistritz district of Großstübing (Styria) dissipated around 1:35 am: a young woman was brutally raped on her way home. The 22-year-old dragged his victim across the wet meadow and assaulted her there. Although she defended herself with hands and feet, the Styrians did not let go of her.
Sentencing just above the minimum sentence
The perpetrator – he wore leather pants and had striking tattoos – was arrested after a few days. He confessed from the beginning. And had to answer for rape at the regional court of Graz.
However, the jury’s verdict could not have been more lenient: 30 months of partially suspended jail time, with only twelve actually serving time in prison. That is slightly more than the minimum sentence of two years for the crime.
Also: With the pre-trial detention already served since April counting towards the sentence, and a possible parole, the 22-year-old could be home by Christmas. The verdict is too lenient – agrees with the prosecutor.
“The Public Prosecution Service has now filed a criminal appeal,” says public prosecutor Hansjörg Bacher. The OLG Graz must now decide on the duration of the detention.
