One dead, 27 sick Austrians – bacteria in the kebab meat block as silent danger. Now the authorities in Vienna have gone – “with sharp” to action.
For the next story you need a strong stomach, because unfortunately it can get unsavory. Background: Rotten kebab meat from the East infected with Salmonella also caused infections in this country – with fatal consequences: a man from Carinthia, over 60 years old, died due to the pathogen strain Salmonella Enteritidis, more than 27 Austrians are sick.
19 kebab stalls have been affected
And so it came to 19 kebab stalls in Vienna for the action “with spicy” – the task force of the city of Vienna, led by the group for immediate measures, took samples from the blocks of meat in Favoriten, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and Ottakring to check the goods check for toxic bacteria. Also present: the Austrian Health Insurance Fund and the Vienna Market Office. The raid report:
- Food samples were taken at eight companies. Laboratories examine the meat samples. A comprehensive Salmonella report will be available shortly.
- But due to hygiene problems, thirteen organ mandates were issued on site. And they are sometimes difficult to digest: improper storage and cooling of food (old meat), leftover bread between dirty freezers and even more disgusting walls and stoves that probably have seen a wet cloth very rarely in their lives.
- One report under the Foreign Nationals Employment Act, four further investigations into wage and social dumping, seven reports under the Allergen Ordinance, three violations of the General Social Security Act.
Further checks planned
“Stands enrich Vienna’s culinary diversity. Nevertheless, it must be ensured that the consumption of food does not pose a danger to consumers,” emphasizes Walter Hillerer, head of the task force of the City of Vienna and the group of immediate measures. And there will be more controls.
