The “Katsdorf Wine Spring” in Upper Austria came to a painful end for VP Mayor and Regional Director of the Economic Association Wolfgang Greil. With a blood alcohol level of 1.82 he crashed on the way home with the e-scooter. He had to have surgery, was reported and lost his driver’s license. In the “Krone” he apologized.
“After two years of hardship, we want to meet again this year in the village square of Katsdorf, enjoy wine and delicacies – and above all celebrate the conviviality”, said ÖVP Mayor Wolfgang Greil (53) in the run-up to the “Katsdorf Wine Spring”. The festival, which opened at 3 p.m. on Saturday, was not really depressed, but it was a great success and very enjoyable.
The numerous visitors enjoyed the presented top wines in beautiful spring weather and animated by the brass instruments and the song of the “Katsdorfer Bradler”.
Operated in the hospital
The mayor also celebrated with his people until the early hours. When he went home at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, he had more than 1.8 per mille alcohol in his blood. As a nightcap, he toasted with gin and tonic and then swung onto the e-scooter.
After only a few meters he fell over a speed bump. With a deep wound under his eye, he was taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz and operated on. It placed ads for his alcoholic drive.
“I’m terribly sorry for the incident”
The “crown” reached Greil at the hospital at noon. “I am very sorry about the incident. It was a big mistake that I got on the scooter,” he said remorsefully: “I sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed with my behaviour.”
The state ÖVP was not happy. “Something like this shouldn’t happen!” emphasized government director Florian Hiegelsberger. Greil will also be notified.
