Pre-trial detention was imposed on Thursday afternoon for two juvenile drunks who allegedly ran over a landlady in Linz and who are therefore under investigation for attempted murder. The regional court responsible for criminal cases in Graz saw strong suspicions in both the 16-year-old and the 17-year-old.
The 16-year-old from Graz and her 17-year-old companion allegedly left a bar in Linz on August 9 without paying and got into their car. When the landlady tried to stop them, they allegedly ran over the woman and fled. The 41-year-old restaurant owner was run over and seriously injured. Evaluations of video recordings and witness statements indicated that the 16-year-old may have been behind the wheel.
Two weeks in custody
After the crime, the teenagers fled to Croatia, where they were arrested a few days later. On Wednesday evening they were extradited to Austria and taken to the Graz-Jakomini prison. The boy remained silent during an initial questioning by the magistrate about the allegations, the young woman noted, but details of the statement were not disclosed.
The two will initially remain in custody for two weeks, after which a new hearing must take place.
