A pair of sisters couldn’t think of anything better than dancing on the graves of slain soldiers in a Kiev cemetery on Independence Day. The two women also filmed each other. The music video went viral and caused a lot of criticism. Now they risk imprisonment!
It all started with a visit to the Kiev cemetery. The sisters’ father died in the war. He is buried here. It is the country’s Independence Day. Suddenly people are dancing – in front of the camera. National flags flutter in the background, all around you you see the decorated graves. The young women film themselves dancing with their mobile phones and share the videos on Instagram. A storm of indignation breaks loose.
Kiev police subsequently announced in a Telegram post that the women were arrested less than an hour after officers were informed of the rash action. The accusation: grave desecration.
The sisters later apologize on Instagram. A written statement said: “We understand that our actions did not take place in a place where our father is buried along with other fallen defenders of Ukraine. We are sincerely sorry and we ask that you forgive our stupidity.” The sisters countered that their father would have been happy with the dance video.
The women face a prison sentence of three to five years.
