The alpinist (58) fell on Sunday during a mountain tour on the Habicht in the Stubai Alps and was injured. Because of the fog she could not easily be taken away with the emergency doctor helicopter, the emergency doctor and the mountain rescue team had to walk a long way.
Rescuers completed an extensive, 10-hour mission in Tyrol on Sunday to bring an injured 58-year-old woman safely down to the valley after a trip over the Habicht in the Stubai Alps. The woman, who was traveling with her 64-year-old German husband, fell during the descent. Her husband made an emergency call. Mountain rescuers were then unable to fly directly to the victim due to dense fog, resulting in long walks.
The operation lasted until midnight
As the fog continued to fall, the eight mountain rescuers were flown as high as possible and dropped off by a rescue helicopter, police said. After a long walk, they reached the injured woman – like an emergency doctor who had also been dropped off by a helicopter. The 58-year-old was largely abseiled to the Innsbrucker Hütte with a mountain stretcher. From there, she was taken to the valley by the material ropeway, taken over by the rescue service and admitted to Hall Hospital, the report said. The operation ended around midnight.
