A 29-year-old from Vorarlberg evaded a police check in Dornbirn on Thursday evening and instead hit the accelerator. This will probably cost him dearly now.
At around 10:30 p.m., officers from Dornbirn Police Station, during a traffic check, signaled the driver of a blue VW Golf to pull over to the side of the road. At first he slowed down, but then suddenly stepped on the accelerator and sped away – almost hitting an officer, who was just able to back up.
Breathalyzer refused
As part of an immediate alarm search, the vehicle was stopped at the Hörbranz motorway exit almost an hour later. During the check, the driver, a 29-year-old Hörbranzer, immediately admitted that he had ignored the stop in Dornbirn. He was less cooperative with the breathalyzer, but promptly refused.
His driver’s license could no longer be taken away from him; it had already been stolen once. The man is charged with attempting to defy state authority and also faces a number of administrative sanctions.
