After more than twenty years, mobile phone parking is being phased out in almost all federal states

Date:

From the beginning of 2024, something will happen with ‘electronic parking tickets’: EasyPark will replace mobile phone parking, except in Vienna, where the city will continue to operate the service, it said at a press conference in Vienna on Thursday. .

For more than 20 years, paying parking fees via app or SMS in Austria has been possible via mobile parking. Now they have found a partner for new requirements with the European market leader for digital parking. EasyPark wants to gradually include all mobile phone parking cities and municipalities in its offer, with the exception of the city of Vienna, where the current solution remains the primary one.

New number 1 for parking apps
Until now, drivers in 85 cities could pay via EasyPark. “By the end of the year, we want to be present in around 120 Austrian municipalities and thus become Austria’s number 1 in parking apps. We are pleased to continue A1’s pioneering work in smart parking management in Austria,” said Markus Heingärtner, Head of EasyPark in Austria.

Anyone who uses mobile parking and is then confronted with a change does not have to take any action at this time: he or she will be informed about the change in good time.

This is what the new app brings
EasyPark is represented in all neighboring countries, but also in France, Sweden, Norway and Belgium, for example. The parking process can be started, extended or stopped in the app with one click. Minute-by-minute billing is available in most communities. All common payment methods – SEPA direct debit, credit cards, PayPal and Apple Pay – are accepted.

So far, both options are available in 28 cities. In addition to the capital of the state of Burgenland, Eisenstadt, completely new EasyPark cities will be built, including Gleisdorf (Styria), Steyr and Gmunden (Upper Austria), as well as Wiener Neustadt and Baden (Lower Austria).

In Vienna everything remains the same
In Vienna, however, everything remains the same. As a spokesperson for Finance Councilor Peter Hanke (SPÖ) confirmed, mobile phone parking will continue to be available there. This is because Vienna itself is the operator of the service, as was emphasized. If you decide to switch to a private operator, a tender must take place.

The spokesperson said that he was also very satisfied with the use of mobile parking. This is used in 70 percent of the cases where parking fees have to be paid.
