Oligarch dodges – Steel mill: the danger on the Upper Adriatic seems to have been averted

Date:

The resistance seems to be having an effect: the oligarchic steel factory, which was to be built in the middle of the Italian nature reserve in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, now has to be built in Tuscany.

In recent months, conservationists, regional politicians and also holidaymakers from Austria (as reported) have taken action against the planned steel factories on the Upper Adriatic Sea between Lignano and Grado. And the resistance seems to have had an effect. The client, the Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, is now said to have looked for another location for his so-called ‘green’ work.

New location in Hafenstadt
And apparently he has found what he was looking for – even if he wants to stay on the Mediterranean. According to current information, Ukraine’s richest man now wants to implement his two billion euro project together with the Italian Danieli Group in Tuscany. Specifically in the picturesque port town of Piombino, right opposite the island of Elba.

The first rounds of talks and negotiations with representatives of regional politics are scheduled for next week. However, it is doubtful whether the Ukrainian oligarch can expect less resistance from conservationists here. But apparently the Italian government does not want to give up the oligarchs’ billions.
