The case of a woman from Klagenfurt shows how dramatic the postponement of an operation can be: the 72-year-old, who suffered from so-called open legs, had to wait a long time for her operation – and eventually developed blood poisoning.
Because a 72-year-old woman suffered from so-called open legs on both sides – medically known as leg ulcers – her daughter took her to dermatology at the Klagenfurt Clinic. “The massively crying legs were treated there. We were then immediately sent back home,” says the daughter of the affected person.
“We were told this was a home care case, not a department case. I immediately found out that we should have waited three to four weeks for home care.” Therefore, the daughter herself tried to bandage her mother’s legs. But exactly a week after her first hospital admission, the pensioner collapsed in her home in Klagenfurt, causing her to be taken by ambulance to the central emergency room.
