The go-ahead was given after several cases of tuberculosis on a Tyrolean young cattle farm. As a result, five cattle had to be killed in December. However, it is probably an isolated case: other companies were not affected, it now appears.
After five cattle tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) at a young cattle farm in the Tyrolean Lechtal (Reutte district) in mid-December, the country gave the green light on Wednesday. Serial TB surveys on the risk farms in the upper Lechtal, Stanzertal, Verwall and the Karwendel Almen in the Schwaz district revealed no further cases of bovine tuberculosis. Approximately 7,000 cattle on 700 farms were examined.
The activities remain closed
The infected cattle were found in high-risk areas as part of the established TB surveillance program. The affected business is expected to remain closed until mid-April, it said on Wednesday. The remaining cattle are examined twice every two months after the suspected young cattle have been killed.
“The ban will only be lifted once TB-free test results are available,” officials in the country explained the procedure. There was no danger to people.
