The walk takes place in Burgenland on the initiative of the Heart Failure Working Group of the Austrian Cardiological Society. . The event is intended to show that patients with heart failure can also do well. Between 100 and 150 participants are expected and football icon Herbert Prohaska will officially open the walking day.

Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common causes of death
Chronic heart failure (“heart failure”) is one of the most common diseases in Austria. In Austria, around 250,000 people have been affected, but the number of unreported cases is said to be significantly higher. Every year thousands of people in Austria develop heart failure. According to the organizers of the walking day, cardiovascular disease (over 35 percent) together with cancer (approximately 23 percent) are the two most common causes of death in this country.

How to recognize heart failure
The most noticeable symptom of heart failure is shortness of breath; those affected become exhausted more quickly, become increasingly tired and suffer from dizziness. Water retention in the legs, effusions in the lung space or in the abdomen, and cardiac arrhythmias may also occur.

Although heart failure cannot be cured, modern medicine can significantly slow the progression of the disease and even improve the quality of life. A careful approach to the disease and the body is recommended – this also includes regular physical activity – such as walking.

The walking day starts on September 30 at 11 a.m. from the Seehotel Rust car park, the meeting point is at 9:30 a.m. Registration is possible via www.leben-mit-herzschwaeche.at or on site.
