In Linz, climate activists clung to the streets on Monday morning. Understanding among people and in politics is limited. The city boss of Linz, Klaus Luger, even calls for harsh punishments.
Monday morning on the main street (tram station Rudolfstrasse) in Linz-Urfahr: Five climate activists sat down on the road towards Urfahr, three of them stuck to the asphalt – now the climate activists of “Last Generation Austria” were also active in Linz. They wanted to draw attention to the climate and energy crisis, according to a broadcast.
Annoyed drivers
Motorists reacted angrily and tried to chase the activists away, fist fights ensued and traffic jams soon developed. The police arrived quickly, after 50 minutes everything was over. The demo has not been registered.
Such actions would torpedo people’s understanding of the urgent action that needs to be taken when it comes to climate protection, Luger says.
“Counterproductive”
His deputy Martin Hajart (ÖVP) “deems such actions counterproductive”. Green alderman Eva Schobesberger, on the other hand, says: “These are young people who are afraid for their future. I can understand that.”
