Glamping instead of camping – the Carinthian lake is being cleared – that’s what’s behind it

Date:

Holidaymakers from all over Austria have been enjoying summer in Carinthia for decades. The rent on the former union site was cheap and the view was fantastic. This year they have all been discontinued to make way for a multimillion-dollar project. But 100 campers simply refused to leave. What is behind this “disobedience” – and why could it still cost Carinthia a lot of money?

Such a bustle rarely happens at the Klagenfurt court. More than 100 permanent campers from all over Austria came on Monday to defend themselves against the eviction procedure for their pitches at Lake Hafnersee. The Carinthian asset management KBV leased the property to Falkensteiner. The well-known hotel group wants to invest 20 million euros in a glamping project – without permanent campers. The previous tenants, the Sonnenhotels from Germany, must therefore ensure that the area, if not broom clean, is at least empty of people and caravans.
