With his unemployment benefits cut off, a man from the Krems district of Lower Austria wanted to burn down the Public Employment Service (AMS). However, he was caught with Molotov cocktails and other weapons in the car and received a partial prison sentence and admission.
Lots of potential for aggression, four Molotov cocktails, a wild chase and a knife attack including the use of a Taser: these are not scenes from the latest cinema action movie, but rather the movie-worthy arrest of a 24-year-old in the Krems district. The indictment reads like a script: it is May 10, a day like any other. But a phone call to the employment service (AMS) changes everything. When the 24-year-old was told that his benefits would be stopped, he saw red. “I will burn down the house and with it the AMS,” he allegedly threatened his partner.
Completely furious, the Waldviertler builds four Molotov cocktails, gets into the car armed with a knife and bayonets and drives away. His family alerted the police. Special forces immediately follow the violent detonator. After a wild chase, the young man finally stops, jumps out of the car with a knife in hand and then jumps towards the officers. A Taser is finally used to track him down.
According to the judge, admission is inevitable
“I had a stressful time,” the Waldviertler said during the trial for dangerous threats and resistance to state authority. “He has no impulse control, which is extremely dangerous,” the expert said, confirming that the person with a previous criminal record had a personality disorder. Verdict: Two years partial imprisonment and admission to a forensic therapeutic center – not legally binding.
