A 49-year-old serial burglar was exposed in the middle of Klagenfurt because of a dangerous threat with a weapon. During one of his coups, he also stole a gun.
Passers-by raised the alarm on Thursday because a man wielded a weapon in Kaufmanngasse in Klagenfurt and threatened a 39-year-old from Klagenfurt. When officers arrived, with the help of two witnesses, they were able to identify a 49-year-old man who initially denied everything. During a search, police found what they were looking for and were able to find a half-loaded pistol and two magazines of ammunition in the man’s backpack. The man was subsequently arrested.
Several burglaries
Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been stolen during a burglary on September 2. The 49-year-old, who has no fixed abode, is also responsible for a further seven burglaries at restaurants and shops in Klagenfurt, which he committed between August 19 and September 4. The burglaries at a shop in the city of Klagenfurt and a restaurant between September 2 and 4 are also probably the man’s fault. In both cases, the perpetrator ripped wall safes from their anchorage.
Torn safes from their anchorage
During his coups, the man used to steal cash and tobacco products, sometimes ripping furniture safes from their moorings and fleeing with them. The weapon was also located in one of these safes. The man was taken to Klagenfurt prison. In total, the damage amounted to tens of thousands of euros.
