“Mom, mom!”, three children (eleven-year-old twins and a nine-year-old) screamed desperately for help when their mother (40) suddenly collapsed while taking photographs in the knee-deep Ischl in Bad Ischl and unconsciously floated downstream. A local man (47) rescued the woman and pulled her out of the water.
A 40-year-old from the Gmunden district went swimming with her three children early on Sunday afternoon on the Ischl in Pfandl, municipality of Bad Ischl. The Ischl currently has a temperature feeling between plus 18 and plus 20° Celsius and is still suitable for swimming due to the high outside temperature.
In this area the river is about 50 centimeters deep. The 40-year-old went about five to ten meters into the river around 1 p.m. and wanted to take photos of her children from this spot.
Floated unconscious for a few meters
Suddenly the woman lost consciousness, overturned and floated unconscious a few meters downstream. The three children who saw what happened ran after their mother, screaming. A 47-year-old from Ischl, who happened to be above the parking lot, heard the screams and immediately ran towards the river. He was able to immediately pull the unconscious woman out of the water and administer first aid.
The 40-year-old immediately regained consciousness without any resuscitation measures. She received first aid on the spot from the emergency medical team who had now been alerted and was then taken to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Bad Ischl.
