And every day it is not the marmot that greets you in the Mühlviertel, but the tractor. This time, police officers stopped a white small truck near Altenfelden – the late summer heat had reached 30 degrees and it was even warmer in the car. There were nine adults and six children inside.
The Rohrbach federal highway has become an official part of the smugglers’ Balkan route. The constant monitoring produces hits almost every day – most recently on Sunday afternoon in Altenfelden. Here police officers drove a white small truck to the sports field and found nine adults and six children in the back. The smuggler was taken into custody and the customers were taken to the Linz police detention center.
On Saturday, a box truck containing fourteen illegal migrants and a driver was arrested in Ottensheim.
Formerly thieves, now traders
The police, together with citizens and patrol cars, monitor the new smuggling route. The Puma border unit in particular is very active and stops every suspicious van if possible. These were already on investigators’ lists before the new smuggler attack, but not to arrest human smugglers, but thieves and burglars who like to use these vehicles.
