Unusual aviation accident on Sunday in Pertisau: a German paragliding pilot (54) had problems during the flight, causing him to fall into the water of Lake Achensee.
The German performed various flight maneuvers for training purposes under the supervision of the Achensee Flight School. At 10:38 a.m., during a maneuver known as “spiral flying,” he spun out of control and lost altitude too quickly.
Rescue parachute activated
Despite activating the rescue parachute, he fell into Lake Achensee. Although he was wearing a life jacket (deploys if he comes into contact with water), he was underwater for a few seconds. The crew of a rescue boat from the flying school was already on site.
Quick recovery
She immediately pulled the victim out of the water and started the rescue chain. The German received first aid from the Schwaz/Achensee water rescue service and was flown by rescue helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck with significant injuries.
