Well, what then! Many people in Linz are currently surprised: a peacock has been walking quietly through the Urfahr district for weeks. The bird travels through gardens, perches on fences and even feels comfortable in a raised bed. City life seems to be getting to him: he doesn’t let himself be caught.
“There is rarely a day when no one calls us about this,” Lukas Riedl, commander of the Linzer animal rescue service ICARA, told the “Krone”. “He is seen every day somewhere in Urfahr.” The large bird was already hanging around the city in early August. Animal rescuers cannot say with absolute certainty whether it is always the same animal. “It’s entirely possible that it’s still the same,” says Riedl. The peacock seems to like it in Urfahr: “From what you hear, people should feed it too.”
Animal protection would like to catch him
As beautiful as the city bird is to look at, animal protection would like to capture it. On the one hand, so that nothing happens to the peacock itself when it runs across the street, and on the other hand, so that the free-roaming animal does not cause an accident. There’s just one problem: every time Riedl and his colleagues get closer, the feathered animal runs away. “He won’t let us get closer than four to five meters. Even with a casting net or something like that you would have to close the distance,” says Riedl. Several people have already contacted ICARA’s animal protection agency, saying the animal they saw could be their peacock. It is very likely that the bird escaped in Steyregg.
