A dispute at a German secondary school in the Berlin district of Neukölln escalated completely on Monday morning. The emergency services who quickly arrived on the scene were confronted with punches, cuts, pepper spray, a broken hand and a punch in the face from a police officer.
Teenagers are known to sometimes behave unpredictably. But 14- and 15-year-olds at a Berlin high school in the infamous Gropiusstadt district had all their fuses blown on Monday morning.
What happened: Three young people got into a fight with two students of the same age (14 and 15 years old) for supposedly “banal reasons”.
The youngest of the duo then quickly attacked the trio with pepper spray. One of the attacked boys took it and sprayed the duo. And fists were already flying.
Teacher attacked, principal broke her arm
Two teachers who rushed forward tried to stop the argument but were also sprayed with irritating gas and physically attacked. Now the school director (52) intervened. However, she was pushed by a youth, fell to the ground and broke her hand.
Boy punched officers in the face
Eventually the police arrived with several radio patrols and after that the situation seemed to calm down. But suddenly, according to ‘Bild’, the big brother of one of the 15-year-olds appeared. He hit one of the officers in the face with full force. He wrestled his attacker down and the boy suffered a laceration to his lip. He refused medical treatment. Instead, he threatened and insulted the police officers and was eventually arrested.
The sad result: 49 children, young people and teachers were injured by the irritating gas and had to be treated as outpatients. The “criminals” were handed over to their parents – there will probably be (legal) consequences.
