Due to microsleep, a carom caused five injuries in the Ausserfern

Date:

Three vehicles were involved in a serious accident on the Fernpasweg in the municipality of Pflach (Reutte district) on Saturday afternoon. A German (28) fell asleep behind the wheel of his car and drove into oncoming traffic. Two other motorists were unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the car.

The 28-year-old and his passenger (34) drove in their car towards Germany shortly before 4 p.m. In the municipality of Pflach, the man may have fallen asleep briefly and crossed into the oncoming lane. He first collided with an oncoming camper belonging to a 43-year-old German who was traveling with a 35-year-old woman and a five-year-old child.

The impact ripped open the left side of the camper and threw a camper gas canister onto the road. The 28-year-old German then crashed into the car of a 50-year-old Dutch woman who was driving behind the camper.

Closed for hours, four injured
“Four people were slightly injured and one person was seriously injured in the accident,” police said. 13 rescue workers, an emergency doctor and eight emergency services from the Pflach volunteer fire brigade were present. Some vehicles involved in the accident were seriously damaged. The collision tore the axle and left front tire of the 28-year-old’s car. Fernpass Road was closed at the scene of the accident for about three hours.
