Franz Handler wrote a success story as head of Austria’s nature parks. After 28 years, the Styrian is now retiring with a “good feeling”. This also has to do with the deer pear.
“Kron”: Mr. Handler, you have led the Austrian Nature Parks Association since its founding in 1995. What vision did you have when you started?
Franz Handler: There were already some natural parks, but there was no uniform framework or goal. I felt it was important to develop a guide that everyone could follow. This is how our 4-pillar model was born, which actually still applies: a nature park protects the landscape, must be a recreational facility, aimed at raising awareness and should not forget regional development, or the economy. .
