Due to dirt in the stream – defective sewage treatment plant as a cause of fish mortality

Date:

A faulty sewage treatment plant was responsible for the death of hundreds of fish in the Petersbach in the Mödling district (Lower Austria). But the brave firefighters saved what could be saved.

Mayor Thaddäus Heindl immediately alerted “his” fire brigade in Hennersdorf after the technical problem at the sewage treatment plant in neighboring Vösendorf was reported to him. “Damage limitation was the order of the day,” emphasizes operations manager Stefan Varga. And despite the courageous intervention, hundreds of fish lost their lives.

The Florians and the waterworks workers courageously collected as many surviving fish as possible and released them into a nearby freshwater reserve. To dilute the dirty broth, Varga had clean water pumped into the stream at four critical points. However, this help came too late for many sensitive aquatic animals. They had already died painfully in the polluted water.

There is still no trace of the Vienna Forest eco-disaster
Detectives are still groping in the dark in the ‘Anzbach’ eco-crime case. As reported, the disaster in this wetland in the Vienna Forest had an even more devastating effect. Manure had wiped out all life.
