Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen leader and Vladimir Putin’s ‘bloodhound’, is said to be in critical health. News of the death of the dictator, known for his brutality, was even spread on Ukrainian social media channels. A video has now appeared on Telegram in which Kadyrov takes a walk. However, it cannot be said whether these are recent recordings.
In recent hours, images appeared on social networks showing Kadyrov in a coma. Some channels even reported the death of the Chechen ruler. In any case, it is certain that Kadyrov has been struggling with a kidney problem for a long time.
Personal doctor buried alive?
Also striking: the dictator has made very few public appearances lately. In addition, Russian bloggers had spread the news that Kadyrov had his personal doctor Elhan Suleimanov buried alive. Kadyrov blamed the doctor who gave him injections for his poor health and even believed he had been poisoned, they said.
Now a video appeared via Telegram in which Kadyrov walks in the rain. Although his face looks swollen, he smiles into the camera and announces that his health is excellent and advises anyone “who cannot distinguish between truth and lies on the Internet to get some fresh air and sort out their thoughts. ” The video shows the 46-year-old taking a walk in rainy weather, although it cannot be said with certainty when the photos were actually taken.
Brutal Chechen troops in Ukraine
Like the late mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, Kadyrov is also involved in the war in Ukraine; its units have thus far operated largely independently of the Russian high command. Kadyrov’s Achmat group says it has prepared and sent tens of thousands of volunteers to Ukraine over the past 15 months. The troops played a major role in the capture of the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol a year ago. Now they are opposing the Ukrainian counter-offensive near the town of Mariinka in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast.
Kadyrov’s units are as notorious for their ruthlessness as Prigozhin’s Wagner mercenaries. And like him, Kadyrov has often publicly criticized the military. In October, after another setback for the Russian military, Kadyrov suggested that the government in Moscow would consider using a nuclear weapon with a relatively low yield. Recently, however, Kadyrov – unlike Prigozhin – has refrained from public criticism.
Kadyrov has been in power in the republic of Chechnya, located in southern Russia in the Caucasus, since 2007. Putin campaigned for the son of former Chechen President Akhmat Kadyrov, who was assassinated in 2004. Human rights activists accuse Ramzan Kadyrov of being responsible for serious abuses, arbitrariness and attacks. The US had already imposed sanctions on him a few years ago.
