What happened to Michael? There has been a large-scale search for the 29-year-old in the Almtal (Upper Austria) since Sunday. On Monday evening, mountain rescuers, sniffer dogs, helicopters and drones had to turn back.
“Our son has not come home from the mountain tour and cannot be reached by telephone” – Michael’s family from Linz raised the alarm on Sunday. The 29-year-old left on a major tour last Thursday. From the Almsee he wanted to walk over the Neunerkogel (1904 meters), Zehnerkogel (1929 meters), Elferkogel (2038 meters), Zwölferkogel (2099 meters) and the 1945 meter high Einserkogel, but was unable to get in touch.
Found car
The Scharnstein police found the missing man’s car near Almsee and brought together all available emergency services to search the huge area: fire brigades, mountain rescuers, search dog teams from various organizations, two helicopters and also a fire brigade drone.
No new clue so far
In the evening, a police helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera was deployed. But he couldn’t find any trace of Michael either. The search resumed on Monday morning. As soon as there are further developments, we will report this on krone.at.
