His penchant for foreign cutlery caught a Romanian serial burglar. He had stolen, used and later lost a coffee spoon with his DNA on it. This allowed Innviertel police officers to arrest the crook and his five accomplices. There were 35 burglaries in Kerbholz.
In November, residents of Munderfing surprised the perpetrators at dusk. While escaping, one of the crooks lost a spoon. With the help of the DNA, the police were able to successfully trace the DNA. Six men between the ages of 20 and 51 are accused of committing a total of 35 burglaries in the Mattighofen area and causing more than 185,000 euros in damage
Criminal associates recruited via social media
The main suspects are said to have recruited men from Romania via social media and under the guise of a construction company based in Mattighofen. These criminal associates are said to have first explored the houses and businesses and later entered through windows on the ground floor. “There were even nights when several houses were broken into within minutes. At the Josefimarkt in Uttendorf or on New Year’s Eve in Mattighofen,” says Philipp Gerner, head of the police working group.
The loot was cashed in Romania
The stolen goods were stored in Mattighofen, then taken to Romania and sold there. Several perpetrators already have a criminal record, two know each other from their imprisonment in Denmark.
