A Tyrolean couple has been dancing through life for 40 years at the Polai Dancing School

Date:

Christine and Jury Pfauser have been moving on smooth parquet for 40 years: in the same rhythm, arm in arm. The couple talks about the fascination of ballroom dancing.

If you ask Christine and Jury Pfauser from Rum how they got into their hobby, you will hear different stories. Christine talks about a dance tournament at Congress in 1984: “I was fascinated and knew immediately: I wanted to learn that too.” Her husband Jury’s approach was slightly different. She talked about a holiday in Croatia with a friend and an enlightening evening of dancing: “Every second step I took, I climbed onto my partner’s feet. That was embarrassing.”

Twice a week on the way to dance school
That was 40 years ago. Nowadays no one steps on anyone’s toes anymore. Today the Pfausers float over the floor. On average they meet twice a week at the Polai Dance School. One pleasant evening in a relaxed atmosphere, one refinement of step combinations during the course. There is no longer much unexplored territory for the Rumers. You already master all the Latin and ballroom dances. “But you never stop learning,” says Christine. Posture, step precision, expression – there is always something to do.

Joy is the top priority
But above all there is enthusiasm, joy and well-being. “You are doing something good for your body, your head, your soul,” says Christine, looking at her husband. He nods: “When you come to the dance hall, you leave everyday life and your many worries outside for a while. Here you can be completely with yourself and among like-minded people. It’s a wonderful feeling.”

Reached the highest level step by step
Arm in arm and step by step, the Pfauser couple have achieved everything that amateur dancers can achieve over the years. Confirmation of the “Goldstar” level is recorded in the dance step. The couple also has a favorite dance. It’s Tango Argentino. Danced passion, fascinating step sequences. Jury and Christine speak of a challenge, but even more of the magic of the shared rhythm: “For this dance you need absolute trust in your partner.”

For all their ambition, dancing in tournaments was never a problem for the Rumers. “We do it completely for ourselves,” says Christine. She and her husband describe the fascination with a beautiful insight: ‘Dancing makes you happy.’

“Healthy for body and mind”
In 45 years, approximately 100,000 Tyroleans have attended the Polai dance school. Today, Julia runs the family business together with her parents Waltraud and Ferry. “A dance course is not just about learning steps,” emphasizes the former Dancing Stars teacher. She talks about body sports, brain training, happiness school. ‘Dancing keeps you healthy’ is Polai’s message. ‘Dancing keeps you healthy’ is also the motto of an association that de Polais founded in 2018 with partners and support from the state and health insurance. The pandemic forced a pause. But for the dance school’s 45th anniversary this year, the club is inviting people to dance again.

It starts on Friday (September 22) at the private university UMIT in Hall. From 5 p.m., interested parties can learn about the health benefits of ballroom dancing for free and get started under expert guidance.
