Twelve fire brigades with 24 vehicles and over a hundred men were deployed on Tuesday evening to fight a fire in a commercial building in Gersdorf an der Mur (Styria). Five dogs and three cats were rescued and one sheep died in the fire. No one was injured, the damage is enormous.
Police officers were called to the fire in the Leibnitz district at around 11 p.m. When they arrived, the stable building in which hay, straw and agricultural machinery were stored was already on fire. The Gersdorf fire brigade had already activated a section alarm upon arrival in order to ensure the water supply.

The first measure was to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent building. The comrades immediately began to set up the firefighting lines and carry out the firefighting attack using heavy respiratory protection. Using aerial images from thermal imaging drones, telehandlers and crane grabs, an attempt is made to reach the remaining embers.
The stable building was destroyed by flames
The building burned down completely. A sheep that was in the farmhouse at the time of the fire died. Firefighters were able to get five dogs and three cats out. In total, twelve fire brigades with 24 vehicles and 111 personnel were present.
The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire have not yet been determined. According to police, a neighborhood fire investigator will inspect the fire site later on Wednesday.
