Unknown perpetrators have freed approximately 8,000 mink from a farm in the US state of Pennsylvania. Since then, the hunt for the animals has been ongoing, which animal rights activists and authorities warn about because they are “aggressive.”
The predators were able to escape from the farm in Sunbury through holes in the fences in all directions. Because many of the mink remained near the farm, police were able to quickly recapture them after the first alarm was received on Monday.
The population was warned not to approach the animals. The local veterinary clinic wrote on its Facebook page: “Hundreds of minks are still suspected. You shouldn’t try to catch them yourself. They are not pets and should not be placed in home care.”
10,000 “liberated” animals in Ohio
The background of “animal liberation” is still unclear. In November last year, a similar form of vandalism took place at a mink farm in the US state of Ohio. At that time, approximately 10,000 breeding animals escaped. Many died at a busy intersection.
