The European Union is supporting Ukraine with another 1.5 billion euros. The aim is to help the country affected by Russia’s war of aggression rebuild critical infrastructure such as roads and bridges and maintain necessary public facilities such as hospitals and schools.
The European Commission announced this in Brussels on Friday. With this further aid payment, the Eastern European country has received 13.5 billion euros from the EU so far this year. The money is part of a loan program worth up to 18 billion euros that EU member states agreed last December for this year.
The EU wants to continue to support “reconstruction”.
“We are determined to support Ukraine and will continue to play our part in rebuilding a modern and prosperous country,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to EU figures, Ukraine has received around €81 billion in financial aid since the start of the war. This includes financial, humanitarian and military support from the EU, the Member States or from European financial institutions.
