A surveillance camera at the international airport in the Philippine capital Manila captured a security guard stuffing banknotes into her mouth.
A passenger had previously reported the theft of $300 during an inspection. It is now suspected that the surveillance camera footage shows the woman eating the banknotes and rinsing them with water.
Suspended
As CNN reports, the employee denied stealing and throwing away the money. She explained that she had eaten chocolate. Nevertheless, she was immediately suspended.
Not normal”
A spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration said this is not a “normal way” to eat chocolate. The agency announced on Facebook that it had launched an investigation and was working with airport security and police.
The airport says it has taken measures to prevent future pickpockets and has removed pockets from security guards’ uniforms.
