Unknown perpetrators stole thousands of kilos of grapes in Vienna. Two wineries in Döbling have been affected. The investigation into the strange case is in full swing.
“In both cases, many hundreds of kilos of grapes have disappeared,” police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger said on Saturday. According to Haßlinger, there is currently no concrete evidence of the perpetrators. This means that the police are still in the dark. In any case, the police command of the city of Döbling has taken over the investigation.
Harvested and taken in secret
In the Cobenzl winery, which has belonged to the city of Vienna for 110 years, as much as 4,500 kilograms are said to have been secretly harvested and removed from an area of half a hectare. It is believed the perpetrators struck at night.
400 to 500 kilograms were stolen from a private winemaker, with the person involved assuming that the crime was part of a larger gang.
Exact amount of damage unknown
The looting was only noticed when the harvest was about to begin. There is currently no financially quantifiable amount of damage.
Police called on night walkers to report thieves who are attacking other people’s grapes on a large scale. The executive itself wants to tighten controls – there are already regular patrols in the vineyards.
