The 41-year-old driver from Weißkirchen (Upper Austria) could no longer get out of the way: his car hit an 85-year-old on his electric bicycle. The senior from Leonding probably missed a stop sign. Attempts at resuscitation failed. The elderly e-biker died at the scene of the accident.
They are popular, but unfortunately also dangerous: on Monday there was another fatal accident involving an e-bike in Oftering.
Fatal collision at an intersection
Around 10 a.m., a 41-year-old from Weißkirchen drove his car along the “Bärestraße” from Marchtrenk towards Oftering. At the same time, the later accident victim, an 85-year-old from Leonding, was on his e-bike on the Westbahnstrasse towards Jebenstein. A fatal collision then occurred at an intersection.
The elderly person drove into the intersection and may have missed the stop sign. The driver of the car tried to brake and avoid the vehicle, but still hit the electric bicycle.
Resuscitation fails
The rescue team and emergency physician started resuscitation measures immediately upon arrival. But they were unsuccessful. The 85-year-old died on the spot. His family members are being cared for by the crisis intervention team.
