A drastic method to combat wasps almost proved fatal for a 63-year-old resident of Stummerberg in Tyrol’s Zillertal on Monday: after using a gas burner, his garden house caught fire. His wife and a neighbor had the presence of mind to prevent something worse.
Two wasp nests had formed on the 63-year-old’s garden house. To get rid of this permanently, the local resident arrived late on Monday morning with the gas burner. About two hours after he started his work, the accident happened: the garden house caught fire.
The local woman’s wife reacted quickly: together with a neighbor who rushed there, she extinguished the fire. The Stumm fire brigade was also alerted and was eventually able to officially announce ‘fire out’ around 1:30 p.m. Fortunately, no one was injured.
