Dangerous routes to school – too narrow sidewalks and fast moving cars

Date:

The new school year is only a few weeks old and concerned parents are already sounding the alarm. Dangerous traps await their children on the way to school. This is also the case in Reisach im Gailtal, Drobollach, Greifenburg.

A mother from Reisach in the Gailtal is very concerned. It warns of traffic on the federal highway. “The road is winding and underestimated by most road users,” explains Angelika Fugger, immediately pointing out another traffic problem. “There is a place in the middle of the city where the sidewalk becomes narrower. “This is far too dangerous, especially for those who go to school,” says the mother. She advocates information signs to make drivers aware of pedestrians.

The narrow city is also a headache for Markus Hassler in Greifenburg. “Dangerous situations often arise here, especially in winter,” Hassler explains. “The place is a real disaster. There is no room for pedestrians on the sidewalk. “They have to fight their way through the clothing racks in front of the stores and hope they don’t get hit by a car or even a truck,” said Hassler, describing the precarious situation.

Lydia Maier from Drobollach am Faaker See also hopes for understanding and help. “Already in 2021, the municipality submitted an application for a zebra crossing for the Großsattelstrasse in St. Niklas. “But so far without success,” says the mother, disappointed and ultimately hoping for more certainty. “People just run past here. Crossing the street safely is hardly possible,” warns the concerned mother.

As in previous years, the concerns of the attentive school route investigators will this year be forwarded to the responsible authorities, where experts must then assess how best to neutralize the danger spots.
