A Viennese (95) was lucky in a serious traffic accident in Penzing on Wednesday evening. The driver had previously lost control of the car, crashed into a waste collection point, broke through a fence and became stuck over a slope.
The alerted emergency services freed the Viennese from the vehicle. However, because the car was in danger of crashing, the Vienna Fire Department had to first stabilize and secure the vehicle. To regain the steering wheel as gently as possible, parts of the car were removed using hydraulic tools.
Spectacular rescue operation
At the same time, a paramedic climbed into the interior of the car and treated the seriously injured man. The team then pulled the Viennese out with a shovel stretcher and placed him on a vacuum mattress. The man suffered several fractures and bruises in the accident.
The railing was in danger of falling
He was immediately flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter, the Vienna Professional Rescue Service said. When the vehicle was recovered, the collection container threatened to fall on the railing of a school behind it. The car and container were secured by the fire brigade.
