Heartless act – three puppies just “thrown out” in the trash

Date:

Hardly a day goes by without reports of abandoned four-legged friends. Last Monday, a particularly horrific incident also occurred: someone lost their three puppies by dumping them in a garbage can. A fine of up to 7,500 euros awaits the perpetrators, but they are rarely caught.

Among empty plastic bottles and leftovers, observant passers-by found three small mongrel puppies in a waste container in Liesing. Barely a handful large and clearly too young to be separated from their mother, the trio were left to their own devices. The alarmed animal rescue service of the city of Vienna brought the abandoned little one to the TierQuarTier.

sad fate
First, the three bitches were extensively checked and cared for by the vet. The mixed breed puppies are believed to be around six weeks old and have not been kept in the best of conditions. All three puppies, “Alice”, “Amy” and “Ameli”, show musculoskeletal abnormalities and are very unsteady on their feet at times.

The little “Ameli” currently even needs physiological care to support muscle growth. “I wish I could say that the story of these puppies is an isolated one. Unfortunately, we get calls almost every day from people seeing a dog on a leash on a tree or a cat crammed into a van,” reports TierQuarTier operations manager Thomas Benda.

“Anyone who abandons an animal – whether it is a hamster, dog or cat – is committing a criminal offense and faces hefty four-figure fines. Adopting an animal should not be an impulsive decision, but should be carefully considered. Every living thing deserves to be seen as a valuable family member and not to be ‘thrown away’ as garbage”, Benda exclaims. The three puppies will soon go to an experienced foster home to socialize the young puppies as best as possible.

better future
The three young bitches were unlucky. But regardless of their lives so far, every effort is now being made to ensure that the little ones have a bright future ahead. As with all foundlings in the TierQuarTier, they will only be placed with people who are aware of the responsibility for an animal and are willing to carry it.

The TierQuarTier Wien now relies on the help of the population: did you see anything unusual or do you know where the abandoned animals came from? Then contact the Lost and Found Pet Service of the City of Vienna on 01/4000 80 60. It is forbidden to leave animals behind, fines up to 7500 euros can be imposed!
