“Conditions on the B 148 have not improved. Lots of traffic, abandoned checkpoints, countless accidents, garbage and feces in the front yards – that’s why the citizens’ initiative “Lebensraum B 148” demonstrated in the middle of the road on Friday afternoon for more safety.
On Monday, the citizens’ initiative “Lebensraum B 148” called for a registered demonstration in Elling. The affected residents have come together for the third time and want to set an example. “It is a cry for help from a region that simply cannot control the avalanche of metal. Fatal accidents continue to happen and that is irresponsible,” says organizer Manfred Rosner angrily.
Dangerous route
The last time a serious accident occurred on this route was in May this year. As reported, six people were injured, some seriously. A 49-year-old Hungarian died at the scene of the accident. “We advocate a better quality of life for residents, more safety for road users and fewer traffic jams and lighting for alternative routes,” the participants explain their concerns. About 100 people gathered on the highway Friday afternoon. Beer benches were set up in a cordoned off area of the B 148 and possible measures were discussed.
“No one from the three major parties came. We went to a meeting with State Councilor Steinkellner in November last year, but nothing came of it,” said Rosner. One lane was kept open for emergencies. After two hours, the route was reopened to traffic.
