In the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the court has denied a police officer compensation for injuries sustained during the war in Ukraine. He was injured by a soldier from his own ranks who detonated a hand grenade in the barracks.
According to the sources, the man in question belongs to the Russian National Guard, “Rosgvardiya”. It is seen as one of the most important domestic instruments of political power of the Russian government and reports directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, their employees do not seem to enjoy any special privileges.
As a military court in the city of Nalchik has now decided, National Guard soldier Chisiri Kurasov will not even receive compensation for his war injury. The project “Kawkas.Realii” became aware of this fact.
Hand grenade woke soldiers from their sleep
Kurasov was deployed in Donetsk Oblast. One night, a soldier from his own ranks detonated a hand grenade where the National Guard was sleeping. The wounded Kurasov then turned to the head of his unit. As Putin specified, he would have been paid compensation of three million rubles (about 29,000 euros) for this. However, the application was rejected.
Random decision
According to Kawkas.Realii, the court supported this decision. “It is clear from the material that Kurasov’s injury from the explosion of a hand grenade was not due to his participation in the special military operation (this is how the war in Ukraine is still called by the official Russian side, note) and that this injuries are not due to combat operations with the enemy,” the project quotes from the documents.
Kurasov argued in vain that Putin’s decree did not state that the damage had to be inflicted by the ‘enemy’. Only “injuries during military operations” are mentioned.
