“I do not like him!” – For almost twenty years, a 44-year-old butcher from Helpfau-Uttendorf in the Innviertel has had little joy with his brother-in-law, who is a year younger than him. He wouldn’t treat the sister well. There have been several clashes between the two North Macedonians in the past. Another debate was supposed to take place last Sunday, but it ended with a knife in the neck…
The men made an appointment by telephone on Sunday at the eldest’s home. However, the argument outside the house quickly got out of hand and moved into the building – where the butcher attacked the 43-year-old with his fists. And then decided – according to his confession during the interrogation with an interpreter – to ‘kill’ him. The 44-year-old allegedly took a pocket knife with a 13-centimeter blade from his pants and stabbed his brother-in-law several times in the upper body and neck.
Ex-wife calmed perpetrator
He probably wouldn’t have let it go if his ex-wife, who still lives in the big house after the divorce, hadn’t chimed in: “What are you doing? Stop it,” she shouted at her ex-husband – and he obeyed. While the woman raised the alarm, the butcher went outside, waited for the police with the bloody knife and was arrested. “It is being investigated on suspicion of attempted murder,” says Alois Ebner of the Ried public prosecutor’s office – imposing pre-trial detention is mandatory and the presumption of innocence applies.
The seriously injured man was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. The most serious wound was one in the neck, where he was saved during emergency surgery. There is currently no danger to life.
Next door, the fire brigade celebrated Oktoberfest
In the community of Helpfau-Uttendorf, with a population of 3,800, the bloody act is a topic of discussion. “The fire brigade’s Oktoberfest took place close to the house,” says Mayor Josef Leimer. However, the visitors did not notice the knife attack. “Just that the helicopter has landed.” The crime scene is located in the middle of the city center, between the school and the kindergarten.
