The actions of one’s own boss should actually be the highlight of the AfD election campaign in Bavaria, but it has now become known that this will not be possible. The reason is a threat against Alice Weidel, who would even have taken her to her private apartment.
“The day before yesterday there was a safety-related incident. “Ms Weidel and her family were removed from their private apartment to a safe location by security authorities as evidence was collected pointing to an attack on her family,” a spokesperson for the politician said on Tuesday.

As a precaution, she has refrained from public appearances. The AfD had invited Weidel as a keynote speaker on the Day of German Unity in Mödlareuth – a place that is located in both Bavaria and Thuringia and through which the inner German border used to run. The date would be the highlight of the AfD election campaign in Bavaria.
Weidel addressed her followers with a video message. “I would like nothing more than to be with you today, but unfortunately I cannot,” she said, calling for a lesson in next Sunday’s elections for the Bavarian state government led by CSU Prime Minister Markus Söder.
The counter-demonstration was calm
Numerous counter-demonstrators also came to the city to stand up for democracy and cosmopolitanism and against right-wing extremism. The ‘Mödlareuth limitlessly colorful’ campaign, among others, called for this. According to the Upper Franconia police station, everything was quiet until the afternoon.
