A German (60) would probably have imagined his trip to Upper Austria differently. He had ridden his motorbike to Haibach ob der Donau, but got lost during a walk and could only be located near the “Steinernes Felsen” – a viewpoint – with the help of a drone. He was rescued at midnight.
A 60-year-old German rode his motorcycle to Haibach ob der Donau on Monday and then went to the nearby “Steinerner Felsen” viewpoint around 2 p.m. Since there was still not enough time, he walked to the town of Inzell, had a drink in an inn and returned to the “Steinernes Felsen” via a hiking trail.
Got off the path
However, he strayed from the marked path and lost his bearings in the steep, impassable terrain. When it got dark around 7:30 PM, he called the police via the emergency number. A search was started together with the Haibach fire brigade and the responsible forest owner. A little later, the fire brigade of Sankt Marienkirchen an der Polsenz and the rescuers of the Alkoven volunteer fire brigade were also alerted.
The rescue was not completed until midnight
Using a drone, the 60-year-old was located in the steep terrain about 250 meters below the “Stony Rock”. The high-altitude rescuers descended and were able to rescue the German unharmed along the slope to the Inzell freight road, strapped into his climbing harness. The rescue was completed shortly after midnight.
