Austrian petrol stations have to pay more again, and diesel drivers are particularly affected by this. At the beginning of September, a liter of diesel was on average two cents more expensive than Super, but by the end of the month the difference was already ten cents. The reason for this is the tense supply situation.
“Austria and the EU are dependent on imports, especially when it comes to diesel. However, due to the increasing demand for diesel, the quantities that previously came from Russia have disappeared since the start of the war in Ukraine,” the ÖAMTC said.
In addition, there are said to be capacity bottlenecks and technical problems at various German refineries.
Diesel cheaper compared to last year
On average, a liter of Super cost around 1.70 euros in September, while for diesel it was 1,766 euros. “If you compare current prices with those of the previous year, Super costs slightly more than in September 2022. Diesel, on the other hand, became noticeably cheaper – but only because you paid an average of more than 1.90 euros,” the club said.
