A confusing arrangement regarding parking fees has already cost many motorists in Achenkirch, Tyrol, a lot of money. A woman from Jenbach got it this weekend. The community shows no good will and the waves are running high.
Michelle Egger, born in Achenkirchen and now living in Jenbach, is still furious. Last Sunday she received a fine on her car, while she had previously given ten euros to the parking meter.
Parking ticket for ten euros
“After visiting the cemetery in Achenkirch, we parked our car next to the lake,” says Egger. “I bought a parking ticket for no less than ten euros – the machine wouldn’t cost less – and placed it neatly behind the windscreen. Then we went for a walk and stopped at Scholastika for coffee and cake.”
Fine of more than 25 euros
Egger was traveling with four other adults, and on the way back to the car, the Unterländer noticed parking fines on numerous cars. “We still thought that’s what happens when you don’t want to pay for parking,” she says. What she didn’t know: her car was also ‘decorated’ with a parking ticket from the municipality of Achenkirch for 25 euros. “We had no idea why and immediately thought it was a mistake.”
Egger therefore called the community on Monday. The lady on the other end of the line probably knew immediately what it was about. “She told me we had bought the wrong parking ticket. The left side of the area is owned by the community, the right side is private. A sign would indicate this. There were five of us and we didn’t notice the sign, and the other drivers, who were also fined, didn’t notice the sign either,” said the woman from Jenbach, who asked for goodwill from the community, angrily.
Municipality rejects goodwill solution
However, the office did not want to know anything about it and the municipal employee was also extremely unfriendly. Egger then contacted the district administration, where similar cases were already known. None of this has changed anything: she has to pay the traffic fine. Coffee and cake that afternoon cost a total of about 100 euros. An insolence!
