The Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation (PERTE) of the Marine Industry progress in the digitization of industrial processes and in diversification into sectors such as offshore wind energy, two aspects in which the Basque industry has a “high specialization”, as explained by the Secretary-General of the State Industry, Raul Witprior to a technical meeting with marine sector agents.
Also present at the meeting were: Arantxa TapiaMinister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Government, and Denis Itxasodeputy of the government of Spain in the CAV.
Blanco has come, hand in hand with the Tapia department, to mobilize projects in the marine sector and to solve the doubts and questions of the industry, always “in that view of digitization and diversification”.
The PERTE is especially aimed at private shipyards operating in the CAV —Zamakona, Murueta and Balenciaga—. Its order book in 2021 has been expanded with seven new units, which means that with 15 units in the portfolio, its workload is guaranteed until the end of 2023 in its five production sites.
The Minister of Industry has pledged that the Navy PERTE will have the necessary budget to accommodate a large part of all the initiatives presented. It provides for a total investment of 1,460 million euros, with a contribution from the public sector of 310 million euros and a private investment of 1,150 million euros.
The minister explained that the Basque Maritime Forum and the energy cluster were already integrating both activities for the diversification of the naval sector, so that the shipyards “besides building and repairing ships in wind at sea“, and wants to take advantage of the “opportunity” offered by PERTE to intensify this activity and reach SMEs “which so badly need these resources”.
Tapia wants too that the resources arrive “as soon as possible” In this sense, Blanco has clarified that “this semester will be decisive”. The secretary has assured that the Basque Country will play “a relevant role” in the naval PERTE, as well as in the agri-food sector, where the Basque industry is present, and that of the electric vehicle, where “there are excellent projects by large companies and SMEs in the Basque Country “.
Counsel referred to La Naval’s land, 50% of which is to be used for industrial activities. The interest of the Basque government is to place a shipyard there, and one of the options would be right to carry out offshore wind energy.
