A serious rear-end collision took place in Lower Austria on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old firefighter.
A 72-year-old was driving his minibus in Windigsteig (Waidhofen an der Thaya district) towards Vienna around 7:30 PM and, for unknown reasons, crashed into the car of a 33-year-old driving in front of him almost without braking. The van then overturned and landed on the roof of the car. The 33-year-old was thrown from the vehicle and trapped, police reported on Sunday.
72-year-old injured in hospital
The 72-year-old motorist suffered unspecified injuries in the crash and was taken to Horn State Hospital. All help came too late for the 33-year-old. The emergency doctor could only determine that he was dead.
